Project Name: HOME - Habitat Open Management Engine
Team Members and Team Lead: Jim Hurne, Jonathan Corbin, Tom Setliff, Denny D Daugherty
Date Report Submitted: March 12th, 2003
Time Period Reporting On: March 4th - March 12th
Progress Made
We now have an ER diagram that represents the overall structure of the database. This will serve as the basis of our overall application. Consideration was given to the needs of Habitat for Humanity and with the goal of having a flexible design.
We met with Fred Silva on March 5th to discuss requirements of the database application that were not already clear to us. Several questions were answered and things explained that will help our application design better suit Habitat for Humanity’s needs. We also showed Fred some low fidelity prototypes that we had drawn to represent the overall structure and user interface for the database application. These were then revised per Fred's comments and suggestions.
Plans for Upcoming Time Period Until Next Status Report Due
Jon will work on setting up Subversion or CVS so that we can store the code for the application in a general location where we can all access and modify it. This will be important as we move from the design phase to implementation and coding.
We also plan to begin coding very shortly and to start some incremental implementation. The low fidelity prototypes we had previously created will be constructed into actual HTML templates for use with the database application.
Issues Resolved
We have a much better understanding of important issues regarding the database applications. Fred clarified how the system will need to handle such things as taxes and payments tracking. We have also been able to give Fred a clearer understanding of how the finished application will work and how he will be able to interact with it.
New Issues to be Addressed
It is important to begin coding shortly and create an environment where we can work collaboratively in coding. We have a break so we will need to decide what, if any, work can be done by team members during that time. We will also need to consider the issue of application turnover. There will have to be somebody at Habitat for Humanity that will be able to maintain the system in our absence after the application is completed.
