Approach to Low-Fi Prototyping

Since calendars of events are a common application, we chose to print out some sample calendars of events from the web instead of drawing them. These sample calendars illustrated common design decisions such as the format of the calendar, the location of links on the page, and forms and fields for adding or searching events. They helped us discuss the layout and the interactions that the Gender Initiative would like to see in their calendar user interface.

Sample Pages

The following are a list of links to the calendars that we printed as "prototypes":

Trinity College - Department of Women, Gender, and Sexuality

UCSB Resource Center for Sexual & Gender Diversity

Women's Net Add Event

Santa Clara University - Program for the Study of Women and Gender

Q Web

Women's Studies Program

Results

Michele and Kris presented a viewbook of these samples to a meeting of Gender Initiative members. They especially like the calendar at Trinity College. They now refer to particular features from several different calendars when describing what they would like to see in their system.
